2013 Record Year for the Lynnwood Convention Center

The more than $3 Million in gross revenue was the highest in the Center's eight-year history, 21% more than 2012 and 67% growth since 2009. "Angie and her staff did an outstanding job," said George Sherwin, Board Chair for the Lynnwood Public Facilities District. "Not only did they exceed the $3 Million mark for the first time, but they did so while delivering high guest satisfaction ratings. That says a lot about the management team," Sherwin added.

Lynnwood Convention Center Welcomes Artist Reception

The Lynnwood Convention Center is proud to announce an Artist Reception on Thursday, February 13th from 6-8 p.m. The event is free to the public and features complimentary hors d'oeuvres and refreshments along with no host beer and wine. The reception begins with a brief program where each artist talks about their work and inspiration.

Lynnwood Convention Center Welcomes Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration with Keynote Speaker, Talib Kweli

Come celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. King through music, dance, and stories. The 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration will be held at the Lynnwood Convention Center on Thursday, January 16th at 6:30pm. Admission is free to the public.
 
This year's event will feature Brooklyn based hip-hop artist, Talib Kweli, as the keynote speaker. Kweli is known as being one of the most lyrically-gifted, socially aware and politically insightful rappers to emerge in the last 20 years. He has performed all over the world, working with artists such as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, The Roots, Norah Jones and many other famous musicians. 
 
"We are focusing this year on how we take the teachings and ideals of MLK and make a difference in today's world," said City of Lynnwood Community Outreach Specialist, Julie Moore. 
 
The program will also include several acts by local students including a DJ, a hip hop dance and a musical performance. "I'm always amazed at the talented student performers from Edmonds School District and Edmonds Community College," Moore commented.
 
For several years, the City of Lynnwood, Edmonds Community College and Edmonds School District have worked collaboratively to sponsor a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration and bring Lynnwood a positive program that encourages mutual understanding and respect for our growing and changing community.

Lynnwood Convention Center Welcomes 2013 Digital Expo

The Digital Expo will be returning to the Lynnwood Convention Center November 2-3, 2013. Hours of the event are Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday 10am-5pm.  Admission is free to the public.
 
The Digital Expo is the largest photo show on the west coast and features classes, speakers and industry vendors.
 
The event will offer 35 free seminars on topics ranging from using all of a camera's features to lighting techniques to capturing better landscape, nature and travel images. All classes are taught by seasoned photographers and industry professionals.
 
Three well-known photographers will speak throughout the conference, sharing their famous pieces and the stories behind the images. Special guest speakers include:
 
  • David Hume Kennerly, 1972 Pulitzer Prize winner for his photos of the Vietnam War and President Gerald Ford's personal photographer. American Photo Magazine named Kennerly "One of the 100 Most Important People in Photography." 
  • Jennifer Wu, professional photographer best known for her nature, landscape and night photography. Wu was named by Canon USA to the elite group of photographers, Explorers of Light.
  • Robin Layton, Pulitzer Prize nominated photographer whose work has been featured in the Smithsonian. Life magazine named Layton one of the most talented photographers in America.
 
In addition to classes and speakers, photo industry vendors will be at the event offering deals on cameras, lighting gear and more.  Manufacturer representatives will be on hand to show all the latest gear and provide attendees hands-on interaction.
