(LYNNWOOD, WA) The Lynnwood Convention Center is proud to announce that Brigadoon Service Dogs will be returning to the Lynnwood Convention Center on Saturday, October 20th for the Brigadoon Service Dogs Graduation and Auction.
Business Manager for Brigadoon Service Dogs, Marie Salen said it’s their motto, “Changing lives one partnership at a time,” that makes their work truly meaningful.
“We create matches that create independence,” Salen said. “And for many, that means a world of difference.”
Taking special care and attention, Brigadoon trains a variety of dogs to provide assistance to adults and children with an assortment of disabilities. These can range from mobility issues to autism or diabetes. They are also one of a few organizations that pair dogs with youth younger than 16 years old.
Last year, Brigadoon was recognized by the Washington Department of Veteran Affairs for their newly created Canines and Heroes for Independence program, which pairs dogs with veterans.
Apart from their veterans program, they also have two youth programs and a program at the Cedar Creek Corrections Center in Little Rock, Wash. where inmates help to train the dogs.
“It’s embarrassing for an adult to admit that they need help,” Salen said. “But when that help comes in the form of a dog that loves you and lifts your spirits – it becomes a lot more rewarding.”
For their service in the community, Brigadoon was recognized earlier this year by the Washington State Senate.
On Saturday, October 20th, Brigadoon will host their second annual auction, which also acts as one of their largest fundraisers. There will be a live and silent auction, dinner, raffle and a performance by the Squalicum High School Jazz Band from Bellingham.
The event also doubles as a graduation, highlighting teams of dogs and clients that have gone through their training and matching process.
On October 20th, Brigadoon will graduate nine teams. Quite a success, according to Salen, who added that the training and matching process can be quite extensive.
But the work never ends. Salen said they currently have a wait list of over 30 people waiting for a service dog. “There’s something about when a dog licks or snuggles with you that makes your world a little bit brighter.”
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 a person or $35 for a child, 3-10 years old.
